Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs passed away yesterday morning. He popularized “Scruggs style,” a prominent three-finger method of banjo picking, played the Beverly Hillbillies theme song, and was famously one of the few country/bluegrass musicians who were publicly anti-war during the late 1960s.
Enjoy the “American Roots Music Theme” by Skaggs, Scruggs, Cotton, and Savoy’s Band on Epitonic.
And with that, we leave you with this excellent video of Scruggs performing his signature song “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” at the Camp Springs Bluegrass Festival in 1971.
